FREDDIE RECORDS ARTISTS RECEIVE LATIN GRAMMY NOMINATIONS
JIMMY GONZALEZ Y GRUPO MAZZ, SIGGNO, ELIDA REYNA, FREDDIE MARTINEZ, SR. FREDDIE MARTINEZ, JR. AND CHICAS DE CANELA AMONG FINALISTS

Corpus Christi – Freddie Records is proud to announce that artists recording exclusively with our label have been named as finalists for the upcoming 9th Annual Latin Grammy Awards.

At a press conference held earlier today in Los Angeles, the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences revealed the complete list of nominees. In all, Freddie Records artists and songwriters received seven nominations in four separate categories.

Among the list of finalists, previous five-time Grammy award winners JIMMY GONZALEZ Y GRUPO MAZZ received a nomination in the Best Tejano Album category for their 2007 CD, “Incomparable”. One of the most successful and longest-running acts in the business, Gonzalez and Mazz have consistently released strong albums and have maintained a solid fan base for nearly thirty years.

“A Latin Grammy nomination is something that all artists hope to receive at some point in their career,” says Gonzalez. “Being recognized by your peers is special because they understand the amount of work that goes into producing music.” Gonzalez adds, “After so many years in the business, it’s a great feeling to know that people still appreciate what we do as artists.”

Also, nominated in the Best Tejano Album category is ELIDA REYNA with her release, “Domingo”. Regarded as one of the most-talented female voices and entertainers in tejano music, Reyna has had an especially big year with “Domingo” being hailed as one of the best albums of her career.

Tejano music pioneer and label founder FREDDIE MARTINEZ, SR. is also nominated in the Best Tejano Album category for his latest release, “The Legend Returns”. Produced by Martinez and featuring new takes on some of his biggest hits, “The Legend Returns” also features some of tejano music’s most well-respected studio musicians including Joe Revelez, Chente Barrera, Al Gomez, Louis Bustos and Carlos Cardenas.

Rising stars SIGGNO are nominated in the category of Best Norteño Album for their album, “Six Pack”. Based in Santa Rosa, Texas, Siggno has recently exploded in popularity with a string of hit songs and an outstanding live show lead by singer and accordion player JESSE TURNER. Turner is also nominated as a composer in the category of Best Regional Mexican Song for the Siggno hit single, “Decirte Te Quiero”.

“I’m completely blown away by the news,” says Turner. “The Latin Grammy is the most prestigious award in the entire latin music industry. To be nominated alongside some of the biggest names in the business, for something I truly love to do, is an unbelievable honor.”

Corpus Christi-based newcomers CHICAS DE CANELA received a nomination in the category of Best Cumbia/Vallenato Album for their self-titled debut release. The four member all-female group has been touring extensively throughout the U.S. and is currently enjoying national success with their most recent single and video, “Esta Noche”.

Freddie Martinez, Jr. received a nomination as a songwriter in the Best Regional Mexican Song category for the Jimmy Gonzalez Y Grupo Mazz hit single, “Buscame En El Cielo.” Martinez, Jr. is already a three time Grammy recipient having won twice as a producer and once as an engineer.

The 9th Annual Latin Grammy Awards are set for November 13, 2008 at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The show will be broadcast live on the Univision network.

Freddie Records congratulates all of our nominees and is proud to be associated with such a talented group of artists and songwriters. We wish them all the very best of luck.

JIMMY GONZALEZ Y GRUPO MAZZ TO RELEASE LONG-AWAITED NEW CD
“THE LEGEND CONTINUES…LA CONTINUACION” TO ARRIVE ON SEPTEMBER 16th

Corpus Christi – Freddie Records has scheduled September 16th as the release date for “The Legend Continues…La Continuacion,” the long-awaited new CD by tejano music supergroup Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz. The disc, which boasts 9 new songs and 7 rerecorded Mazz classics, will hit retail stores nationwide and will be available on all major digital outlets. Co-produced by Gonzalez and Freddie Records Vice President, Freddie Martinez, Jr., the new CD is a return to the group’s more traditional tejano sound with plenty of layered keyboards and accordion. The first single, “Retrato Quebrado,” written by award-winning songwriter Humberto “Beto” Ramon, was recently serviced to radio and has already received a tremendous response. A video for the track is currently in production. Other new songs such as “Falsa Felicidad,” “Licor Envenenado,” “Lo Descompusiste,” and the Jimmy Gonzalez and Joe Lopez-penned original, “Si No Estuvieras Tu (No Hubiera Nada), carry on the familiar Mazz sound.

“I’m extremely proud of our new album,” says Gonzalez. “As with all of our recordings, we put a lot of energy and time into selecting the material and developing the arrangements.” Gonzalez adds, “I’m thrilled with the outcome and believe it’s one of the strongest albums we’ve recorded in years. I think the fans will agree.”

In addition to the new songs, and after years of requests from fans, Gonzalez and Mazz decided to include updated versions of some of the band’s biggest hits. Rerecorded versions of classics such as “Gabino Barrera,” “Ahora Quiero Que Me Quieras,” “Lo Voy Hacer Por Ti,” “Toco Madera,” and others make this a must-have album for fans of all ages.

“The idea behind rerecording some of our old classics was to give the songs a modern edge and reintroduce those tunes to some of our younger fans,” says Gonzalez. “We tried to stay true to the original arrangements while giving all the songs an updated sound. It was a great experience because it gave me a chance to record lead vocals on those songs for the very first time.”

Gonzalez is slated to begin a radio promotional tour in support of the new disc beginning in mid-September. The group will then commence a U.S. tour with dates to follow south of the border sometime in November.

“We’ve been blessed with some of the greatest fans in the world,” Gonzalez says. “They’ve fallen in love to our music and have continued to support us for all these years.” Gonzalez adds, “2008 marks the 30th anniversary of Grupo Mazz, and God willing we’ll be around to perform these songs for many more years to come.”

ELIDA REYNA TO RELEASE “DOMINGO” ON FEBRUARY 12th
NEW ALBUM WILL BE HER FIRST FOR FREDDIE RECORDS

Corpus Christi, TX – ELIDA REYNA, one of Latin music’s most successful female artists, is set to release DOMINGO, her highly-anticipated new album on Freddie Records. The disc, her debut for the label, is her first new studio album in almost two years. DOMINGO is scheduled to drop on February 12th. The album was produced by former Avante band member Noel Hernandez and current member Lalo Reyna.

Elida Reyna signed an exclusive recording agreement with Freddie in May of ‘07 and has been hard at work writing and recording material. The album will contain 13 new songs including the first single, Te Espero, a high-energy cumbia written by Reyna. A video for the track is currently in production. In addition, the talented vocalist also co-wrote six other songs for the album.

“I’m really excited about the release of the new album and the opportunity to work with Freddie Records,” says Reyna. “The label has been very supportive in allowing me the creative freedom to record my original material and continue developing not only as an artist, but also as a songwriter.”

During the recording process Reyna also received additional support from Siggno frontman and labelmate, Jesse Turner. Turner shares a duet with Reyna on the Freddie Martinez-penned ballad, Siempre Nos Quisimos. Turner also contributed one of the album’s outstanding original tracks, Te Dejare La Luz Prendida.

“It was an absolute blast working with Jesse Turner,” says Reyna. “He’s an extremely talented artist and a gifted songwriter. I’m looking forward to working with him again in the future.”

FREDDIE RECORDS HONORED BY BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
MUSIC TRADE MAGAZINE NAMES COMPANY AS ONE OF THE TOP REGIONAL MEXICAN LABELS OF 2007

Corpus Christi – Freddie Records is proud to announce that it has been recognized by Billboard Magazine as one of the Top Regional Mexican Album Labels of 2007. Freddie Records was the only independent label listed alongside majors Univision, Sony BMG Norte, Universal Latino, and EMI Televisa. It was also the only Texas-based label to make the list. The recognition is based on album sales and chart activity over the course of the entire year.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be named as one of the top Regional Mexican labels alongside some of the music industry’s biggest companies,” says Freddie Records Vice President Freddie Martinez, Jr. “The record business is a highly competitive industry, so to be recognized by a publication such as Billboard is a very big deal”.

Billboard Magazine is recognized as the music industry’s leading trade publication. It covers all facets of the industry including the tracking of sales, radio airplay, music news, promotion, and marketing in several genres. The results of the Top Regional Mexican Album Labels were published in Billboard’s recent “Year in Music” issue.

“We share this honor with our talented artists who work very hard throughout the year to produce great music,” says Martinez. “We obviously couldn’t accomplish this without great teamwork between our artists, producers, and staff.”

CHICAS DE CANELA SIGN WITH FREDDIE RECORDS
FIRST ALL-FEMALE GROUP IN LABEL’S HISTORY FOCUSING ON DEBUT ALBUM

Corpus Christi – Freddie Records is proud to announce the recent signing of Chicas De Canela. Chicas De Canela is a four-piece all-female group based in Corpus Christi, Texas. Blending a slick combination of cumbia beats with pop, R&B, hip-hop and other contemporary rhythms, these girls are poised to make a huge splash in the Latin music industry.

Band members include Didi Flores (lead vocals and guitar), T.T. Elizondo (bass and background vocals), Cynni Rangel (keyboards and accordion), and Lissi Juarez (percussion and background vocals). Flores, Elizondo, and Rangel may already be familiar to some fans as former members of La Conquista. Rangel also spent time as part of tejano star Elida Reyna’s touring band. In addition to doing session work for several Latin artists, Juarez performed as part of Jennifer Pena’s group for a short while. The girls have branched out and formed their own unit with plenty of outstanding musical chops. Chicas De Canela is already hard at work on their debut album which is scheduled for release in early 2008. A single from that forthcoming album will go to radio sometime in November.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be signed by Freddie Records,” says Flores. “It’s an honor to know we’re the first-ever all-girl group in the history of the company. We’re looking forward to a great partnership with the label, as well as getting our album out and playing for our fans as soon as possible”.

Freddie Martinez, Jr., Vice President of Freddie Records adds, “Chicas De Canela is an exciting new group that we’re proud to have on our label. These girls are extremely talented. They’ve got great songs, a great image, and are hard workers. They have the total package”.

Bassist and background vocalist T.T. Elizondo says, “We’re working night and day on the music for our first album. We’ve tried to be very selective about the material making sure that each song has the right combination of musicianship and hooks to get across to fans”. Elizondo adds, “We’ve currently got about 12 songs recorded but we’re still considering others. We want fans to feel like they’re getting their money’s worth when they buy the CD”.

Chicas De Canela has been together for 6 months polishing their act and working on arrangements for their debut album. The girls have recorded several up-tempo cumbias that showcase the group’s knack for crafting catchy melodies and beats. Expectations are extremely high for what promises to be one of the most exciting new groups in Latin music.

“We know we have to be every bit as good as any of the other groups currently out there,” says Rangel referring to Las Chicas’ musical competition. “Not only are we going to be compared to other female groups and entertainers, but we’re also going to go up against the guy groups as well. Fortunately, we’ve got the backing of label that truly believes in us and is willing to do whatever it takes to help us be successful.”

Percussionist and background vocalist Lissi Juarez sums up the group’s style by saying, “Chicas De Canela is a party band. We’re here to play music that’s going to get you up out of your seats and make you dance.” Juarez adds, “People pay good money when they buy a CD or come to see the band play. Our goal is to make sure they enjoy themselves and come back for more.”

Freddie Records proudly welcomes Chicas De Canela to our extended musical family. We look forward to the release of their debut album and wish them much success.
