I was born on january 7, 1964 in Kingsville, TX..To Alfredo De La Rosa and Juliana Barrera De La Rosa.My brother Rudy De La Rosa was born 2 years later on 01/08/1966,and my sister Rosalinda De La Rosa to follow on 11/11/1968.We grew up surrounded by music on both sides of the family. On my moms side we had Eloy Bernal married to my moms sister Esther. On our fathers side, our father of course Alfredo De La Rosa, our uncles''THE ONE AND ONLY''Tony De La Rosa not to mention Adan De La Rosa and our aunt Eva De La Rosa.So we learned to love music at a very young age,I remember when my brother and I were young, I was about 8 and my brother Rudy about 6,we used to sing ''Aya en el Rancho Grande,''I used to grab a broom and pretend that it was a guitar and Rudy would beat a chair pretending it was a drum. Our family would give us quarters and dollars for us to sing. Not knowing that eventually we would grow up and do it for a living. We grew up listening to and attending our fathers and uncles dances, watching as the public cheered and applauded, deep inside desiring to be up on stage singing or playing along.Up until the opportunity came along for us to be (Rodees),short for loading and unloading the sound equipment.I was about 14 and my brother about 12,this was the same time that our parents struggled thru problems and seperated to eventually getting a divorce. Also during this time I entered the school band where I learned to play the saxophone. My brother Rudy would eventually join the school band to learn the drums. This would eventually help us down the line.By the the time I was 16,my brother was already playing the drums with our father Alfredo. This upset me a little because he was younger and already enjoying and performing with our dad.During all this time I learned to play the accordion.I got married in Riviera, TX., at the DE LA ROSA BARN DANCEHALL.At my wedding I was proud to have my father Alfredo De La Rosa,Tony De La Rosa, and other groups who also performed. It was great!!!By this time I had already learned to play the Sax,the Drums, and a little Accordion. After I got married I traded in my Sax with the help of my new inlaws,Mr.and MRS.Augustin Hinojosa for a brand new Accordion of my own. I knew a little at first but after practicing and still watching my father at the dances eventually I learned more and more. I wanted so bad to be on stage along with my father and brother on drums that eventually I got tired of waiting and started to gather my musicians to form my own group Ricky De La Rosa Y su Conjunto. In 1983 after two weeks of practicing with my new conjunto, I got a call from my dad Alfredo inviting me to join him and sing with him. That was what I had been waiting for but I had already formed my own band and informed him of this. He gave me a choice to let him know in 24 hours or he would get someone else. Well I did not sleep for 24 hours, but came to the decision to stay practicing with my new found conjunto (Ricky De La Rosa Y su Conjunto). We have now been together for about 24 years, with our conjunto known as Los D Boyz. I think the best memory that we have had and that we will always remember is when we went to Washington D.C. to receive an award from the first lady Hilary Clinton on behalf of Tony De La Rosa, in 1998. Tony was ill and could not make this trip, so he sent the next best thing "according to him". We were there for seven days and performed "Atoltonilco, El Circo, y la polka RosaAnna", at Washington University and received a standing ovation from the audience. We made a promise to Tony that we would continue the tradition of his music which is what we are doing now. We enjoy seeing his fans relive their memories that they have of him and the way they appreciate what we are doing by keeping him alive through his music. We pray that the lord will continue to bless us in our musical career. We also would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our fans and friends for their continued support. We love you forever y que "VIVA TONY DE LA ROSA". Rick De La Rosa/Los D Boyz
